Can an employer legally fire you if they hired you without a degree, even though the job requires it?

When I was hired for my job a year ago I was attending college for my BA. I dropped out due to financial difficulties. My job requires a BA and although I am very good at what I do and I have over 15 years of experience in the field. I am afraid to tell my employer that I am no longer in school for fear that they will fire me. Has this happen to anyone out there that can advice me. I am 40 years old and to be honest I do not have the time or the energy to go to college to do a job that I already know how to do.

I lost my job with Halliburton Energy Services through an industrial accident. I have two years left in med school from the early 80s. I am afraid to lose my mortgage and everything that I have worked for to provide for my family. Are there any programs or contibutors that help with living costs and expenses? The nearest med school to me is UNM in Albq. NM. 200+ miles away from me. Any one has a solution or advise, please write to me at latinchili@yahoo.com. Thanks.
